Welcome to Tread Suffolk

Tread Suffolk has been providing popular walking breaks for the past six years

New this Year - Nordic Walking Heading towards the Ells Foot

Tread Suffolk welcomes people of all ages, whether single, a couple, or a group. Our walks take in the rivers, creeks, coast, forests and heaths of East Suffolk, and are based at our newly refurbished Victorian home in Knodishall.

First of all let me tell you about the area. Knodishall is situated close to Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Snape and the rest of the Heritage Coast. It is, in fact, walkable to the sea, so is ideally situated for all the light, well drained land we have in this area of the Sandlings. The area is also blessed with a good number of local pubs, being at the heart of Suffolk’s much loved places, such as Snape Maltings, Minsmere Bird Reserve, Dunwich and Aldeburgh.

Accommodation will be at Well Green House and other local Bed & Breakfasts, Guest Houses or small hotels. We are a group from the start to the end of the break, and expect walkers to remain as a group in the evenings for our meals. Single people are very welcome, and on most breaks there are always quite a high percentage of singles.

We charge no single supplement, but not all rooms are en suite,so you may have to share a bathroom with another person on the break. Our breaks aim to give you a relaxing time in good company with other walkers. You do need to make sure that you can actually do the mileage you have book for, and have suitable outer clothing. Suffolk is not totally flat, more gently undulating, but you still need good stout walking boots.

New this Year – Nordic Walking

Tread Suffolk is pleased to be one of the first to include Nordic Walking in their programme. This healthy, social
body workout, employs 90% of the body's muscles, and burns 20% more calories than normal walking. It is known
as a total body workout, as it firms the backs of the arms, strengthens back muscles, legs, stomach, shoulders and chest. One of the many benefits is the effect on our many “neglected” muscles. Neglected because many normal exercises don't utilise them.

A good example of this is balance. If you have a problem in this area, Nordic walking, with its special poles, can bring about a “retraining programme” in the muscles, giving you renewed stability. It is suitable for most levels of fitness, and can help reduce joint pain with the aid of the special poles that help take the strain. Arthritis sufferers find their hips and knees less painful as the upper body takes the pressure instead.

Tread Suffolk is now running Nordic Walking Breaks, giving you a social and enjoyable muscle and cardio vascular workout, with their own instructor, accredited with Nordic Walking UK, the only recognised body for this recreational sport.

The breaks will be run on the same lines as our other walking breaks, except that there will be Nordic Walking tuition during the day. Once you have learned this excellent technique, you will want to find a centre near you to carry on your exercise, or you may wish to walk on your own at home, working out regularly in the fresh air.

Price £275 for a three day break, poles supplied.

Remember too, that some of our advertised walks may have to be altered due to bad weather, or localised restrictions. We are increasing our number of walks and areas all the time, so these may be included as the year moves on.
