We run two Breaks in Derbyshire, one for Beginners and one for the more Experienced Nordic Walkers. On our Derbyshire Breaks we will be staying in the pretty village of Hartington, not far from the Tissington Trail, surrounded by wonderful views and countryside. This area is a patchwork quilt of tiny lanes, pretty cottages and low stone walls, which separate the small pockets of pasture. Hartington is full of tempting shops and tea rooms, and is also famous for its Cheese Shop! Last time I was there I nearly bought the shop out!! Our walks will take us in various directions, but always with wonderful scenery. It almost doesn’t matter here, whether you are on tiny minor roads, famous trail, or grassland … the views are all good. For beginners the walks will, build up to about five miles towards the end of the course. For improvers or experienced walkers we will be walking between six and nine miles a day.
Our accommodation will be at The Charles Cotton Hotel, right in the centre of Hartington. Charles Cotton lived in the 1600’s, and was an English Poet and Writer. Also a keen fisherman, he is famed for his contributions to The Compleat Angler, and The Compleat Gamester. (Note the old spellings!) In the days when fishermen used lines of horsehair, Charles had one made of wood! And very heavy it was too. Fishing was often in the River Dove, but he sometimes fished the pools, as the winds in the valley were too strong to fish near the rapids. Your comfortable accommodation is full board, with a packed lunch, to be eaten on the walk.
